Richmond Neighbourhood

Steveston

Saturday starts at the fenced off-leash park off Fentiman, gravel under the dog's feet, then groceries at Save-On-Foods and the walk back up from the village.

Steveston North is a small, settled pocket of about 8,900 people, median age mid-forties, and nearly nine in ten own their home. What comes up for sale is townhouses and houses, no apartments, and almost all of it has three or four bedrooms.

There's no SkyTrain in the neighbourhood. The 406 takes you to Richmond-Brighouse Station, where the Canada Line carries on to Waterfront downtown. The 410 runs Railway to Richmond Centre and 22nd Street Station, and the 490 heads to Burrard Station in the afternoons.

The shops are down in Steveston Village, and it's walkable once you're in it: small restaurants, cafés, a pastry shop, paths for walking and biking. Groceries come from Save-On-Foods at 12088 3rd Avenue. For dinner, Steveston Seafood House, Blue Canoe, Baan Lao or Kari House.

Steveston Community Park holds the designated dog off-leash area, on the north side off Fentiman. It's fully fenced with a double-gated entry, gravel underfoot, a separate small-dog area, a water fountain and benches for the people.

Three public elementary schools sit inside the boundary: James McKinney at 10451 Lassam Rd, John G Diefenbaker at 4511 Hermitage Dr, and Manoah Steves at 10111 Fourth Ave. Steveston-London Secondary, at 6600 Williams Rd, serves the Steveston area. Check the Richmond school district's locator for the exact address.
